The past two seasons have not so much seen Dunfermline flirt with relegation but spark up a full-blown relationship and practically co-inhabit.
Bottom but one in consecutive campaigns, only the ineptitude of others has allowed them to retain their SPL status in recent times, but their luck could again be in this season given the poverty of some of the sides in the division. While Jim Leishman's outfit do not appear any stronger that they have previously, Dundee United and Falkirk may well have regressed while initial impressions suggest St Mirren are woefully ill-equipped for the rigours of the top flight.
Yet, given their tendency to pick up more injuries than an Olympic decathlete, it is far from inconceivable that the Fife club could slip into the first division.
