United have signed striker Kevin Smith until the end of the season. The 21-year-old, from Edinburgh, is aiming to kick-start his career after undergoing two knee operations and may feature in a reserve game on Tuesday.

Smith has previously had a spell at city-rivals Dundee. He has also played for Leeds United and Sunderland.

United manager Craig Levein told the Dundee Courier: "He's fit enough to play now and we've signed him on a contract until the end of the season."
