A single Barry Robson goal for Dundee United helped the Tangerines lift last season?s Forfarshire Cup.

Date: 19 July 2005
Venue: Station Park, Forfar, 7.30pm kick-off

Score: Forfar Athletic 0 Dundee United 1 - Robson.

Attendance: 1097.

Robson?s first half goal was enough to secure the silverware for United at Station Park.

The United player looked dangerous from the start and went close with a header from a Jim McIntyre cross after only five minutes, but Forfar keeper Michael Brown produced a great save to deny the opener.

Robson had another chance in the 13th minute when he curled a free kick round the Forfar wall, but Brown was again on hand with a reflex save.

Forfar?s first chance of the half came in the 20th minute when new signing Aaron Conway struck a low drive from 20 yards, but his effort was just wide of the mark.

The only goal of the game came in the 32nd minute when a great run from Robson and a clever one-two with Lee Miller left the Tangerines? striker clear to fire a rifling shot into Brown?s top left hand corner.

As the half progressed, Paul Shields had a half chance with a glancing header for Forfar while a similar attempt from Stevie Crawford saw both keepers making easy saves.

A change for the visitors at the start of the second half almost paid dividends when Collin Samuel replaced McIntyre, and minutes later the striker saw a shot deflected off the woodwork.

Forfar had a chance to equalise almost instantly when David Dunn latched on to a Ricky Waddell cross, but his header was also denied by the woodwork as it struck the crossbar.

Dundee United had the bulk of possession in the remainder of the half but, despite stretching the Loons on several occasions, they could not break through the Forfar defence to add to their tally.

They almost doubled their score in the 85th minute though, when Robson drove the ball across the front of the goal mouth but no-one could apply the final touch.

Forfar put the pressure on in the final minutes with Paul Shields having another chance in the dying seconds, but the United defence held firm to secure the win.
