Tannadice boss Gordon Chisholm decided to rest all 11 players who clinically swept past Dundee on Saturday, allowing him to check out fringe players Collin Samuel, Billy Dodds and James Grady as well as give the public a glimpse of the young talent at the club.

Wednesday, who had made seven changes to their team, enjoyed the better of the early play and had the first chance after 18 minutes, but Glenn Whelan shot wide from the edge of the box despite having sufficient time to bring the ball fully under his control.

United had trialist Rami Shaaban in goal but he was blameless when the Owls took the lead in the 37th minute - Lee Peacock producing a top-quality finish.

Wednesday's Hungarian trialist Zoltan Vasas whipped a cross over Dodds' head from the left channel, giving the Paisley-born striker Peacock the chance to smash a volley looping over the 'keeper into the roof of the net.

Samuel should have equalised in the 55th minute, but he shot straight at the goalkeeper from 10 yards out.

United did draw level four minutes later when Grady was allowed to run down the right flank until he had a shooting angle.

His effort beat the goalkeeper and it looked as though Patrick Collins would clear, but he slipped at the vital moment and helped the ball into the net.

United grew in confidence as the game wore on and got the goal their good second-half display deserved five minutes from time. Kenneth, the 18-year-old, showed fantastic control to bring down the second ball after a corner kick before lashing a shot across the goalkeeper into the far corner.
